In order to further create a favorable atmosphere for learning and practicing English and show what our college students can do with what they have learned, the Department of English held the final round of “English Quick Quiz Show”, one of the most important programs for the British Cultural Festival, on December 4, 2014. Among the members of the panel of judges were Miss Li Guanqun, Ms. Shen Hongbo, Miss Wang Beibei, Miss Cui Weisong, Miss Xu Jingjing, Mr. Shen Hui and Mr. Xia Yangyang. Mr. Wang Rongbiao also contributed his efforts to the activities in helping and directing the activity. All the freshmen from the Department of English participated in this event.

On the basis of the same activity that was done last year, this time the Organizing Committee of the British Cultural Festival decided to introduce “Premier League Module”, that is, encouraging every student to take part in the activity in his or her own class. Then, each class selected their representatives to join the final round, which consisted of three parts: spelling competition, English Tongue Twister and Guessing the Pictures. In addition to the participants from each class, there are two students who were allowed to give assistance to the competitors. Through the tense competition, Classes 1411, 1405 and 1412 won the First, Second and Third Prizes respectively. Miss Shen Yi from Class 1412 was awarded the Best Individual Performance Prize.

When the competition was finished, the Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of British Cultural Festival, Miss Li Guanqun made concise yet encouraging comments on the performance of the students, She said, “The purpose of this kind of activity is to provide chances for all the students to experience of “participating in it, enjoying it and gaining the success”. All the students were actively involved in it, which shows that our students are all eager to learn. ” “From this event, all the teachers were much impressed by the enthusiasm on the part of the students. We will host more activities of this kind and provide more platforms for every student. We sincerely wish that our students could learn English efficiently in a relaxing atmosphere so as to improve their ability to acquire and practice the language,” Miss Li added.

Many students said after the competition that they would cherish every opportunity that was available so as to improve their ability in the process of learning a language.
